Job Description:

The Aquaculture Technician is responsible for the daily care and maintenance of aquatic animals in a commercial aquaculture setting. This includes feeding, water quality monitoring, and overall health monitoring of the animals. The technician will also be responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the aquaculture systems, including cleaning and repairs.

Responsibilities:

  • Feeding and caring for aquatic animals, including fish, crustaceans, and mollusks
  • Monitoring water quality and making necessary adjustments to maintain optimal conditions for the animals
  • Identifying and addressing any health issues with the animals
  • Cleaning and maintaining the aquaculture systems, including tanks, filters, and other equipment
  • Recording and tracking data related to the health and growth of the animals
  • Assisting with the harvest and processing of the aquatic products

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with aquatic animals in an aquaculture setting
  • Knowledge of water quality parameters and ability to make necessary adjustments
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify and address health issues
  • Ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively with others
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education in aquaculture or related field is preferred.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to work in damp and wet conditions.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment.

Working Conditions:

  • May be required to work weekends and evenings.
  • May be required to work in a noisy and wet environment.
  • May be required to work with live animals.
  • May be required to work with chemicals and other hazardous materials.
