Israeli Defense Forces Control Northern Gaza, Dealing a Major Blow to Hamas

Advances Made in Gaza City as Israel Shakes Hamas' Grip

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) informs authorities in Gaza that all military activities must cease within 12 hours. Unfortunately, the cessation does not occur. Hamas denies allegations that it uses the hospital for cover. Israeli military officials provide limited details but emphasize taking precautions to prevent harm to civilians. The IDF gains control over northern Gaza, including capturing significant buildings, dealing a major blow to the ruling Hamas militant group. This marks the first time Israel allows fuel shipments to enter Gaza for humanitarian purposes since Hamas invaded. Israeli soldiers celebrate their gains by displaying flags within the captured structures. Defense Minister Yoav Gallant asserts that Hamas has lost control of northern Gaza, and noticeable advancements have been made in Gaza City. However, he also predicts the war will likely persist for months.

An Israeli commander reports uncovering weapons and fighters in government buildings, schools, and residential structures seized by Israeli forces near Shifa Hospital. The strategic importance of these captured buildings remains uncertain, though it is suspected that Hamas fighters are hiding in underground bunkers. The Israeli army controls the perimeter of Shifa Hospital, claiming that Hamas utilizes it as their main command center and a refuge among civilians. Hospital staff and Hamas deny these allegations. Conditions inside the hospital worsen with dwindling supplies, essential equipment running on limited electricity, and a mass grave being dug in the yard for bodies. The Palestinian Red Crescent evacuates individuals from another hospital in Gaza City.

Israel pledges to end Hamas rule in Gaza but does not disclose their future plans for the territory after the defeat of the militant group. The intense bombardment in Gaza leads to catastrophic outcomes, including thousands of fatalities, missing persons, and the majority of the population seeking refuge in the southern region of the territory. The UN agency for Palestinian refugees announces their fuel storage facility in Gaza is depleted, bringing relief operations, such as providing food and medicine, to a close. This development exacerbates suffering and raises concerns of further casualties. Israel consistently denies the entry of fuel into Gaza over fears that Hamas may utilize it for military purposes.Hospitals in Gaza, notably Shifa Hospital, are grappling with severe conditions as a result of the ongoing conflict. Due to a dearth of fuel for the emergency generator at Shifa, a tragic 40 patients, including three infants, have lost their lives while another 36 infants in incubators are at risk due to the power outage. The Israeli military asserts that they have supplied incubators to Shifa, but unfortunately, without electricity, these life-saving devices remain ineffective. Recognizing the urgent need for action, the Health Ministry has proposed an evacuation of the hospital with the assistance of the International Committee of the Red Cross, proceeding to transfer patients to Egypt. However, a response to this proposal is still pending. As events unfold, it is important to note that the Al-Quds Hospital has already carried out the evacuation of its patients, following an extended period of siege and bombardment by the Israeli army.

Amidst these developments, the United States claims to possess intelligence indicating that Hamas and other militant groups are exploiting hospitals, such as Shifa, to support military efforts and hold hostages. In a video released by Hamas, one hostage lost their life in an Israeli strike, prompting the families of the remaining hostages to initiate a march demanding their release. It is worth mentioning that obtaining impartial reports on the ongoing fighting in Gaza City proves challenging. Nevertheless, according to the Israeli military, they have gained control of the Shati refugee camp and are freely maneuvering throughout the city. Their primary objective is targeting Hamas fighters and dismantling the extensive tunnel network they have constructed.Israel asserts that it is currently taking down a substantial number of fighters, including crucial mid-level commanders, in the ongoing conflict unfolding in Gaza. Despite the loss of 46 soldiers, Israel has experienced a decline in the number of rockets launched by Hamas into its territory in recent days. Nonetheless, on Tuesday, a rocket attack on Tel Aviv resulted in injuries to two individuals. It is important to note that the precision of Israel's claims and the true extent of Hamas casualties cannot be verified independently.
